About the work
The drawing is part of the Bedwork series, a drawing that I make lying in my bed, it is a way for me to leave the professional space of the studio to question the domestic space devoted to women in the history of art.
It is also the position of the “odalisque”, slaves, and Arabs that the orientalist artists painted. I am looking at the mechanisms of domination of masculinity and of patriarchy in this way. The portrait is that of a person I have known, he has rosy cheeks like all the men I draw, it is a way of putting the body between desire and shame.
Make the masculinity blush.
