About the work
Atkin is interested in the echo between the act of drawing and the act of growing. She makes drawings which are not entirely a representation of their original subject but which are more to do with an act of growth onto paper. Each new pencil mark relates to the last in a simulacrum of the growth of leaves or other matter. Every piece has a slightly different type of mark making according to the emerging logic of that drawing. Her work is typically very large but this one, titled Berners Street after the location of the original subject, is made especially to be a miniature.
